Titan Maw
Entrée
A canyon city built deep inside a crevice in the middle of the Pineme plains. It is approximately 1000 years old.
The city started as a meeting space for the races of the underdark to trade with those topside on a more equal footing. It's a place of darkness and sun, but not fully of both. The canyon city soon became a bustling hub of activity for comers and goers of all kinds.
It's a melting pot of cultures, especially those of semi-monstrous origins, like Goblins, Kobolds, Orcs and Gnolls, though humanoid races are also still very present. The society has developed a severely stratified structure where rank is very important and conversation between people of too distant rank is taboo. In many ways, the society of Titan Maw resembles the American Old West.
Rank
Rank is earned through profession. Creators are more highly ranked than servitors, and those who build weapons and armor are among the highest ranked. Those of ignoble professions, such as warriors, may gain rank by slaying great beasts. If a great beast is slain, a ritual is performed to create a symbol of rank (a Tahn'tok). This ritual creates a totem out of a piece of the slain beast's body which can be presented to claim rank.
Factions
Factions are indicated by banners throughout the city, and similar banners are typically grouped together.
- The largest faction is represented by bronze flags
- Gavi went to the faction denoted by a green banner with a gold vertical stripe in the middle
People of Note
Go'Kan - Orc warlord and leader of one of the most powerful factions in the city
Gunterid - a powerful, eccentric old elf and de-facto mayor of the town
Duscern - Drow priestess and leader of the deepest, darkest factions of the canyon
Geography
Titan Maw is miles deep and reaches into the underdark with a river at the bottom. Bridges cross between the sides of the canyon, and beneath the bridges are many geometric crystals that reflect sunlight down into the depths of the canyon.
Warnings!
The real leader of the city is a closely guarded secret. Scholars and others who would share the secrets of Titan Maw are disallowed and may even be killed.
There are also rumors of a thunder or lightning dragon in the area.
