The Clockwork Tower

The clockwork tower was built by Magnus and appears as a tall narrow pyramid composed of moving panels and gears. It's built into the side of a mountain and The Labyrinthine City spans north, east, and west from it.

Construction

The construction of the tower resembles the constructs that Magnus has made (Horse Constructs, Thor Dumhammer, the automaton in the crypt in Kerinhelm) and it appears to only be a few decades old. The movement of the panels are random and where an opening was previously may contain a solid wall the next time the panel moves, and an opening stays open only for a few seconds.

The tower is 225' at the base and 460' tall, and 150' away from the edges of the crater. The crater is shallowest (0') where it meets the city's walls and deepest (100') in the back.

Inside, the tower is mostly hollow, with 22 chambers, 16 of which are mobile and can be arranged in various configuration using an elevator-like system. At top of the tower is the immobile control nexus, observatory, greenhouse, and conservatory. At the bottom of the tower is the engine room and lab (both stationary). The mobile rooms include workshops and living quarters.

History

Magnus built the tower about a decade. In the past year or so, he attempted to create a construct by tapping into the plane of elemental chaos (i.e., "God Matter") and invoking a Mighty Fortress spell. He died in the process while the Mighty Fortress got out of control and starting building the The Labyrinthine City. The fortress created additional spell constructs to help it build, maintain, and watch over the city. Its goal appeared to be to create the most mighty fortress in the world.

Occupation by Elemental Force

A "Fireball" Elemental Construct resided at the bottom where the tower faces the city and small spider constructs (smaller versions of the "Thought" spiders in the city?) crawled along the outside. Every few minutes or so, a panel slides open and a Elemental Construct would fly or walk out and move into the city. More lower level spell constructs appeared than upper level spell constructs.

Inside the laboratory on the bottom floor, there was an obsidian mighty fortress, a huge skink made of nanobot-like devices, and an inky-green skeletal minion. At the top in the control nexus, there was a construct with inky-black tentacles.
