Inez Borin
Unos
The City of Wheels, The City of 7 Dams, The City of 3 Kin.
Inez Borin is tucked away where the massive Athenian River meets the sea. It's fertile delta provides lucious land from which to grow crops. With a mountain range looming overhead (with King's Mountain to the North and Mount Helios to the south) many are under the impression that the city is separated from the rest of the world. Dams created a thousand years ago have created a series of 7 magnificent waterfalls visible from almost anywhere in the city, and considered by many to be one of the Wonders of The World.
The river splits the city into 2 parts, once separated and now under one banner, Inez to the South and Borin to the North. The Borinians are known to look down upon their southern brothers, though the feud is less an actual conflict as much as a joke for many. The buildings of the city are largely wood and stone, with the more affluent areas having a heavier stone influence in its architectural style.
Where the river meets the shore, one encounters a series of 25ft water wheels, each massively turning in the current. Some connect to drive trains running machinery such as mills and a smith's bellows, while others pump water to various places within the city. Millraces carry water overhead and underfoot to run machinery throughout the city, and it seems that more buildings have attached wheels than those that don't. In the most extreme of cases, you can see cranes towering over the city, unloading cargo from ships, or placing large stones atop structures.
The city districts directly next to the water Wheels have been dubbed as "The Wheels", and "The Western Wheels", as those portions of the city are heavily influenced by and dependent on the wheels. (The Southern Wheels/Inez Wheels are dubbed the "Western Wheels" because it's easier to say and they are slightly to the West of where the Northern wheels are.) Here you will find: Smiths, carpenters, and mills, other industrial crafts.
The Inner City, surrounding Kinghome (The King’s Home), is the most affluent district of I.B., partially due to the increased security around the king, so many who fear being victims of crime will pay a hefty price to find a home in this area. Here you will find Luxury goods stores, like fine fabrics, rare foods or pricey imported goods.
Piltover is where you’ll find most of the more high-end or luxury services within the city, as it services the needs of many of those who live in the Inner City. It's also where you will find the Historian’s Guild, the Local University, as well as The Arcane Academy. Here you will find: Luxury services like high end tailors and crafters, fine art Galleries, personal shoppers, exclusive doctors and healers.
The Eastern Arches is a vivid mix of those who do work outside the city, and so commute from the city each day to fields, other docks where ships may land, mountaineers, jungle harvesters, fishermen...etc. Those who live in the Arches tend to claim it’s the real heart of the city, as it’s where the city gets its character. Farmer’s Markets, fishmongers.
The Old District is the first settled portion of the city, though it has changed drastically since those days. The Old District currently houses most of the members of the city who are against the Water Wheels and their associated mechanics, luddites, if you will.
The Stone District's name is a bit on the nose, it houses the mines from which the city acquires most of its metal and stone used for infrastructure. The areas directly surrounding the mines are generally dedicated to the houses of miners, refineries of the ore from the mines, as well as stone cutters for the purpose of shaping the stones for their final destination. You will find stone workers/cutters, metallurgists.
The Arena, and the Arena district, were intended and built for civil discourse before the cities merged and the King of Borin became King of Inez as well. Now it's used for entertainment, fights of captured beasts, fights between humanoid combatants, concerts, a place for speakers to espouse their knowledge upon the gathered masses, etc. The district gathered around the arena is filled largely with those that patronize the arena habitually, those that are vendor’s and concessionaires of the arena, stagehands/maintenance/custodial services; the Industry of the Arena.
The Zhaun is the most up-and-coming district in the city, where those of “new money”, or those who can afford a slightly more comfortable lifestyle, gather to be closer to the luxuries of Piltover and the Inner city, with slightly more affordable living. Many of the more artisan based stores will be found in small markets peppering this district. You will find artisan shops, sellers of fine teas, coffees, brew and spirits, handcrafted artistic goods.
The Tariff House is the building where tariff’s and other taxes are monitored, collected, and stored, also acting as a default bank for many of the cities institutions. It is set up to provide loans for businesses and collateralized individuals.
Centrally located, the largest temple in the city, one of Ioun (and knowledge in general) stands tall, on what was once a small humble island, but has been expanded many times to form a substantial landmass with a massive building.
The 7 falls, a series of 7 massive, tiered waterfalls, are a site of pilgrimage for people across the continent. 7 dams were constructed over the course of centuries providing a steady source of water for the cities various needs, to run mills, provide water for fields, more recently that same waterflow has been used to run The Wheels. The waterfalls are at closest, 2500 hundred feet away, with the farthest, still very much in view due to its immense size, nearly 3 miles distant. A road winds next to the river, up to the damworks, branching off in several locations to service small orchards as well as homes of those who wish to live outside the city.
A small keep is nestled against the side of kings mountain, overlooking the dams and city, where the king would retreat to in times of danger, its bright stone peeks up in great contrast to the lush greenery around it.
A collection of small islands can be seen as you look oceanward, some occupied by military installations, others occupied with residential spaces, a large manor, a collection of smaller homes, a get-away from the hustle and bustle without having to get away.
The roads that approach the city, both from the north and south, are lined with farms, orchards, and ranches that provide food for the city. Major crops to be seen include peaches, Marijuana, Coffee, and rice. Though many other crops are able to be grown in the lush landscape. About 15 miles to the north and south of the city sit large stone gates that may be closed in case of encroaching forces that may threaten the safety of the city.
Large stone towers can be found lining the water anywhere within miles of the cities, multiple cannons point seaward, providing an overlooking protection from the monstrous dangers of the sea. While the city has a main port and additional docks, there are also several docks where ships may unload cargo or anchor for access to the city outside of the city walls.
