The City of Walls

  • We approach the city through rough flint hills (it's about 6 miles away at this point)
    • It's 2-3 stories tall, and things are moving
    • north of the city is under construction
  • I send a letter to Aston describing the city and the giants under control
  • a group of people are heading our way
    • we hide and send Akashim to look
    • they appear to be going east
  • as we get closer
    • we see portcullises
    • there appears to be no pattern to the city or the structures inside
  • we attempt to hide as we approach an entrance
    • but are spotted by Goblins on top of the wall
    • Akashim flies up and sees a community of goblins with tents and houses around the gate
    • the structures are random
  • the goblins attempt to ring a gong to warn of our presence
    • Crephi Ritsk and I scare off the goblins instead (killing one)
    • we open the gate for Nocana
    • Nocana and I stick the gong in our bag
    • we learn (via "Detect Thoughts") that the goblins are scared and worry about being scolded by manikin elementals
  • Akashim does more scouting and sees "giant lizards" scuttling about like ants underneath the structures (it turns out they were Kobolds)
  • Crephi Ritsk flies up for each gate to open it for the rest of us
  • we see "sensor spiders" as we traverse the city
  • most of the enclosed sections consist of the same randomized buildings, but we do spot a circular turreted keep and investigate
    • the keep is inside a space 120' square, with the keep about 50' square
    • there's no movement when we break inside
    • it's fully and lushly furnished, though no books :(
    • there's a fully stocked kitchen (the food appears to be Halivara Forest cuisine)
    • the furniture looks like conjured objects
  • Kobolds eventually arrive to the keep, apparently for supper
    • they say the house cooks for them (and indeed they are served by "Unseen Servants"
    • the city was built on top of where the kobolds were living, and so (?) they were provided jobs (to dig tunnels) in the city in exchange for food
    • the Goblins were also gathered (?) and given jobs)
    • they say the "fleshless" use the pathways and tunnels to travel, as the walls make travel difficult
    • they say it's been peaceful - they've been in the city for several moons and the city had been approaching for several moons before that
    • they say we can go through their tunnels
  • the southern horizon has a fog and we take a long rest
  • We use the tunnels and attempt to make our way west.
    • It's not too bad for me since I'm small enough to stand up in the tunnels
    • but Nocana and Crephi Ritsk have to crawl
    • we travel westwards for several hours
  • at some point the smaller tunnel meets up with a large tunnel
    • an "Unseen Servant" moves past with a pouch, which Crephi Ritsk pickpockets
    • we see a carapaced large creature move through the tunnels away from us (a bulette?)
  • we leave the tunnels to spend the night in one of the houses or keeps
    • we then see bootprints of 2 humanoids and 1 dragon, going a bit west and south
